Two Plus One: A 5 Hour Creative Interaction
Most art is the creation of one person, one individual, a single mind. Historically, art making has been motivated by the vision of one ego seeking to create. Our proposal is to combine the visions, ideas and styles of two plus artists through dialogue and unrestricted materials. The meaning of collaborate is to work together, often in literary or scientific endeavor. Often, it is good to listen to ideas different from your own, it broadens horizons for what is possible and gives insight into how others view the world. Collaboration means we have to listen and communicate with each other for a desired outcome. It means making art not alone but with others. In this case the outcome will be a series of art pieces created by two individual artists, Andrea Vail and Rachel Emily Simpson plus one more, or many more. The logistics are simple; through a series of one-on-one sessions we aim collaborate with several different artists in one studio for a predetermined amount of time. This project is a creative journey that hopes to teach us something about others, and ourselves while activating our creative community. During Open Studio Saturday at McColl Center for Visual Art
